This Tuesday marks the silver anniversary of Deacon Jerry Buschur’s ordination to the diaconate. A happy and blessed 25th anniversary, Deacon Jerry! In speaking of deacons, the Vatican Council taught that "strengthened by sacramental grace, in communion with the bishop and his presbyterate, [deacons] serve the People of God in the service of the liturgy, the word, and charity" (Lumen Gentium, 29). Pope St. John Paul II reminded permanent deacons of the United States that “This is at the very heart of the diaconate to which you have been called: to be a servant of the mysteries of Christ and, at one and the same time, to be a servant of your brothers and sisters.” On behalf of our parish family, I want to extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Deacon Jerry for his many years of service to the Church and our parish family, and for faithfully attending to the mysteries of Christ and the needs of God’s people in this place. May God continue to bless him abundantly!
