Parish Council Notes

  • Administrative Update
  • Finance Update:
    • Total Easter collection was down about $6,000 from last year.
    • However, total collections have exceeded what we forecasted for the year as a whole. Hoping to stay on this pace as we finish the fiscal year at the end of June.
  • Buildings & Grounds:
    • Building and Grounds Committees have been meeting to lay out a plan for each church
    • St. Wendelin steeple project is complete
    • St. Aloysius staircase project is complete
    • St. Henry Church organ is in need of repair.
      • Talks of the idea of restoration of the church are circulating and were brought up.
      • This needs more thought & discussion.
      • Suggested read was Ugly as Sin by Michael S. Rose
      • Discussed that when the church was renovated last the paintings that were covered are likely not recoverable.
    • St. Bernard Capital Campaign:
      • Originally began in 2018
      • Rectory windows will no longer be part of this campaign as decided by the Buildings & Grounds committee.
      • The basement windows & resurfacing of the front steps will still be done as planned. These are fully funded.
        • Upon completion of these 2 projects, the original campaign would be completed.
    • St. Bernard Stained Glass Windows: in very bad condition
      • The capital campaign addressed the storm windows outside of the stained glass, but no work was done on the actual stained glass windows themselves.
      • The storm windows have bought us some time in regard to the deterioration of the stained glass windows.
      • We're working on more quotes to compare apples-to-apples to get this problem addressed.
      • This project will need to be fundraised for.
    • St. Bernard Rectory: Has been a house of discernment and it has done just that.
      • 2 of the men are now in, or are going to seminary.
      • 1 is going to a monastery.
      • As of now, there is no one planning to live there after the summer.
      • We're hoping to continue utilizing the rectory in this fruitful manner, or perhaps for some Sisters.
      • Will publish articles of the young men living there to share more of this with the parish & extend hope for the future use of this rectory.
  • New Pastoral Council Members were discussed. To be finalized at the next meeting & announced in June/July to the parish.
