Browsing Parish Council Notes

March 2026

Priest: Sacraments/Liturgy/Mass:

  • Solemn Lenten Vespers on March 22 at St. Henry Church
    • Vespers with choral music provided
  • Organ Project at St. Henry
    • Currently exploring the possibility of moving the pipe organ back to the choir loft; currently around $60,000 donated for this project.
    • Need to gather quotes and explore the scope of the project - redirecting duct work, any electrical, climatizing the new (previous) location, sanctuary work, etc.

Prophet: Evangelization:

  • Highschool Backpacking/wilderness trip for boys and fathers
  • Welcome Retreat
    • Council Members proposed bringing the Welcome Retreat to the parish.
    • Goal is to bring Welcome to St. Henry Parish in 2027, likely hosting it at St. Bernard for women.
    • The parish will commit to paying recurring fees for the retreat (registration fee, binders, bibles, etc.). This will be around $1200 per year.
    • Fundraising efforts will be made to cover many startup costs like air mattresses and other reusable items.

King: Administrative Update/Governess/Finance

    • Finance
      • February is closed meaning 67% of the fiscal year is completed
      • We have received around 62.50% of our budgeted weekly collections for the year
      • Overall regular expenses are currently 65.85% of the budget (not including maintenance expenses)
      • Retreat funding idea
  • Proposed an idea for a larger fundraising event to establish a more permanent “Retreat Fund” that could finance the Welcome retreat and others that the parish could provide.
  • Staffing
    • Address Jason Rosenbeck’s(Facilities Manager) departure and replacement plan
      • Split into 2 part time positions instead of 1 full time.
        • Groundskeeper Position is focused on maintaining the yard and grounds at St. Henry, Office, CCD Center and SH Cemetery. Light janitorial work and repair work at Office, St. Henry and CCD Center
        • Facilities Coordinator will focus on overseeing all aspects of maintenance and project planning for parish wide (all churches and church buildings)

  • Buildings & Grounds
    • Upstairs office remodel project: One office is complete.  Schmitz Construction will begin the second office in April.
    • Possible new heating system at St. Wendelin to replace the boilers
      • We now have three quotes for HVAC upgrade
    • Ryan Buschur and his crew deserve a big thank you for taking care of the St. Bernard pew riser project.
      • BB Carpet is coming to refit the old missing section of carpet on Holy Thursday- if this all goes well it shouldn’t take long.
    • High Winds caused some roof damage at St. Wendelin and St. Aloysius.  First Onsite was in the process of responding to the damage
      • Will most likely speed up the need to replace these roofs.
  • Quotes are being obtained
  • Discussion of pros and cons of if it would be worth spending more money upfront for a metal roof that could last longer?
  • Other
    • October Mass Counts
      • Staff made contact with the Strategic Planning Office in Cincinnati to address the recent confusion around the October Mass counts.
        • The SPO explained that their goal with the counts is to show what the average attendance is at individual churches- by that logic the way they count each Mass does make sense.
        • The confusion arises when they totalled all of those averages together to produce a Mass attendance count for the entire parish- doing that skews the numbers and doesn’t actually show our average attendance.
